VICTORIAN VILLA INN ©©10925 Windy Grove Rd. 704/394-5545, www.victorianvillainn.com
This restored inn has just five rooms ($149-199 d) and tons of Victorian charm. The furnishings honor the architecture of the home and include iron beds, tufted chairs, and antique sideboards. The home itself was restored in the 1980s with gingerbread trim and stained glass that was salvaged from Victorian homes all over the East Coast. Perched on the banks of Lake Wylie, the inn sits on an acre of waterfront, and the rocking chairs on the wraparound porch are perfectly situated for taking in the view. Ask for a tour of the lake on the villa’s private boat (some area restaurants can be accessed on the water and the innkeepers are happy to provide transport). Midnight cruises offer a rare glimpse of the lake by moonlight.
