Yes! You can get a lot of food for a smallish price on Charles Street, and this semi-miracle has customers flocking to King & I. The food here is pretty healthy: No MSG is used, and tofu or vegetables can be substituted into any dish you like. The king’s award-winning pad Thai ($7.25) is a must; or, start off with that other Thai favorite, spicy skewers of satay beef, pork, or chicken, each $4.25.
Mine’s Rama Garden chicken dish had big chunks of meat in a yummy peanut sauce, with fresh squash, carrots, mushrooms, and even pineapple tucked underneath, all for $9.95. Other recommended main dishes include yellow chicken curry and ginger pork with vegetables, both $9.95.
Yes, these prices touch Mine’s upper limit, but remember where you are and what you’re getting for your money. Vegetarian dishes are a bit less, and excellent: Fried tofu with vegetables is a sure bet at $8.95.
