KITZBUHEL AUSTRIA

Everyone in KitzbUhel (pop. 8,500) is merely catching his breath before the next run; the town’s ski area, the Ski Circus, is one of the best in the world. A one-day ski pass (‚33) or a 3- or 6-day summer vacation pass (‚3548) include all 64 lifts and the shuttles that connect them; purchase either at any lift. In the summer, 77 hiking trails snake up the mountains; trail maps are free at the tourist office.

Trains leave from the Hauptbahnhof for Innsbruck (lhr. every 2hr. ‚12); Salzburg (2Y2hr. 9 per day, ‚21); and Vienna (6hr. 3 per day, ‚42). To reach the FuJSgangerzone (pedestrian zone) from the Hauptbahnhof, head straight down Bahnhofstr.; turn left at the main road, turn right at the traffic light, and follow the road uphill. The tourist office, Hinterstadt 18, is near the Rathaus in the FuJSgangerzone. (62 15 50. Open July-Aug. and Christmas to mid-Mar.
