There is a profusion of other kinds of marine life too, including a few crustaceans, which makes the dive worthwhile. A deep narrow gully splits the reef at the top and there are lots of soft corals on the walls. Continuing along the gully on the east side will eventually bring you to dive site (16). Down the steep west slope of Swedman Rocks, the seabed is just stones and sand. Moving south along the reef wall on the west side brings you to a horseshoe-shaped bay, surrounded by a steep overhanging cliff wall, complete with a number of crevices in it. Plenty of buck whelks can be found on the sand-and-stone seabed. Tidal streams around Swedman Rocks, especially at the surface, are very severe in both directions of the flood and ebb, but there is plenty of shelter by staying close to the reef. Care should be taken by the boat handler when picking up divers at low water, because of the proximity of the shallow reef tops and the presence of 2-3 metres of tangleweed that can stop a small outboard engine or damage a This is a very large rocky mound that has a tiny part of its highest point just visible on a low spring tide, drying to 0.4 of a metre on the lowest astronomical tide. The northeast corner of the mound forms a deep canyon between this islet and the last dive site, where the water funnels through like an express train and is strong enough to purge your demand valve.
