WILD AZALEA TRAIL

Located in Kisat-chie National Forest, southwest of Alexandria, this National Scenic Trail runs from the town of Woodworth to the Valentine Lake Recreation Area, near Gardner.

It’s the longest hiking and backpacking trail in Louisiana. Scenic and easy, this trail is famous for the wild azaleas which typically bloom from midMarch to mid-April each year.

Terrain ranges from hilly to flat. Numerous streams are crossed along the way. Of special interest is the Castor Creek Scenic Area, a place of beautiful old hardwood and pine trees.

Camping Regulations: Camping is allowed near the trail with few restrictions. One shelter and an established primitive camping area are located along the way. Campsites elsewhere should be at least 50 feet from the trail.

For Further Information: Kisatchie National Forest, P.O. Box 5500, 2500 Shreveport Highway, Pineville, LA 71360; (318) 473-7160.
