I’m part Hawaiian, so Maui was the obvious spot for our wedding, which we wanted to keep small and private. That would have been impossible at home in St. Paul, Minnesota, where Seimone is a WNBA All-Star and three-time champ with the Minnesota Lynx basketball team. Seimone’s agent suggested wedding planner Brooke Keegan, and she turned my vision of an elegant island wedding into reality.
Brooke suggested the Montage Kapalua Bay resort in Maui, and we trusted her instincts, since we weren’t able to make a site visit beforehand. It was the perfect luxury hideaway for all our wedding events. Some of our 15 guests stayed with us at the Montage, and others stayed nearby at TheRitz-Carlton, Kapalua. Guests toured the countryside and the nearby town of Lahaina. Near sunset on May 9, 2015, everyone gathered on the Namalu lawn overlooking the ocean to see our traditional Hawaiian ceremony.
Guests walked to the Montage Kapalua Cliff House, a small cliff side venue with an open-air patio, for a reception dinner that included Kauai shrimp and lobster corn dogs. Entertainer Manutea Nuie sang traditional Samoan songs, we danced the hula, and the evening ended with a fi re and knife show out on the cliff surrounded by all of our most special friends and family. The sound of the ocean waves is one of my favorite memories of the day, and the natural beauty was beyond stunning. It was Hawaii that alone speaks for itself!â
