If you like the idea of partying in a sky-high igloo, mark Austria’s Snowbombing festival in your diary. Held in early April, this six-day music festival on snow is a non-stop good time – think Ibiza in an alpine setting. During the day you can get your adrenaline rush on Mayrhofen’s nerve-shredding black run (the steepest in Austria) or chill out watching the pros show off their skills in freestyle competitions.
Then when the sun goes down, it’s your turn to throw some sweet shapes as you dance the night away. The festival dishes up big name acts (this year’s line-up includes The Prodigy and Groove venues, like an enchanted forest clearing and, yes, an igloo!
With a packed schedule of skiing, snowboarding and partying you’ll need to refuel carve out a little time to check out Mayrhofen’s many restaurants and cafes (a bratwurst from Hans the Butcher is perfect hangover food!). Need some downtime? If all the chaos gets too much, take a break at the Hotel Strass Spa.
