S. Walter Strasser. The steamer had left Hartlepool on 23 August with 1,133 tons of coal, bound for Moss in Norway. She sank in just three minutes, according to the chief officer, taking with her 12 of the crew, including the master, and confidential papers. The six survivors from her crew of eighteen were picked up by an escort vessel and landed at Granton later that day. The wreck is orientated in a SSE to NNW direction. It sits in a half-metre scour on a well-swept seabed of sand, gravel and shells in a general depth of 53 m (LAT). It stands 5.7 m high but is upside down, with the screw and rudder still attached and pointing skywards. The hull, which is covered in a myriad of soft corals, has now begun to crumble down and is showing signs of serious deterioration.
