Waltham;(617) 893-9181 Starting small about twenty years ago, Party Needs has grown to a showroom that covers a quarter of an acre, displaying over 28 thousand items from practical to wacky. Why, there are some three hundred different designs of napkins alone, to match any theme or decor. Not to mention plates and cups, streamers, favors, cards and invitations, and all the rest. There’s something for any season, holiday, or Disney tie-in.
One aisle features classic joke shop toys: Super balls, little rubber dinosaurs, and lots of other party favors for around a dollar or less. All of these are out in open bins; owner Jack O’Connor has a child-friendly attitude. He wants you to play with these things. Anyone can sell stuff, he shrugs. We sell fun. During good weather, he even puts toys like giant soap bubble wands out on the front steps for kids to enjoy.
It’s also worth noting that you can purchase items by the case for a discount of between 15% and 25% off, depending on the item. Party Needs is open daily from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. (Wednesdays through Fridays til 9), and Sundays from 12-5 P.M. It’s a bit out of the way look for the sign outside an industrial park, on this stretch of Route 60 near Belmont.
