Seascape at Annandale NEW ZEALAND
‘Gumboot luxury’ is the name of the game at Seascape at Annandale, an ultra-modern couples’ hideaway perched above a blackpebble bay near Christchurch. If it’s total seclusion you’re after, this is the honeymoon spot for you. Located on an eight-millionyear-old peninsula, the lodge is so remote, access is only via helicopter, or a thrillingly bumpy 4WD transfer across winding cliff-top tracks.
But once you get here, you’ll have the entire thing to yourself (including floor-to-ceiling views of Hector’s dolphins and fur seals frolicking in the surf). The glass-fronted, open-plan suite is dug into the hillside, with a turf roof and soothing stone walls that help it blend into the surroundings (look out from the huge bed and it feels like you’re floating on the open sea).

Wrap up for blustery coastal rambles and be wowed by the dramatic rock formations that rise cathedral-like out of the ocean, before cosying up in front of the fire on your terrace with a glass of NZ Sauv Blanc. Hearty dinners of tender New Zealand lamb and freshly-hauled-from-the-sea mussels can be cooked by a private chef and delivered daily, and there’s an al fresco spa pool where you can simply lie back and soak up the glittering canopy of stars above. Bliss.
THE LUXE TOUCH You can lose hours reading in the suite’s very best spot: a transparent Eero Aarnio bubble chair which hangs from the ceiling. We’ve never experienced tranquillity like it.
GO Turquoise (turquoiseholidays.co.uk) offers three nights from £2,449 per person, with breakfast and chefprepared dinner.
