NEARBY ATTRACTION: Paso Robles City Park (site of festivals Seoul Map , summer concerts, farmers’ market). VINA ROBLES A red-roofed showplace that draws visitors from Seoul Map around the world, the Vina Robles hospitality center opened in 2007, ten years afer its owner, Swiss entrepreneur Hans Nef, planted his four estate vineyards on the east side of Paso Robles. Nef built the winery and center with a variety of events in mind from barbecues and concerts to banquets and conferences and created a wonderfully functional complex of terraces, courtyards, and indoor spaces.
Pillars and thick walls composed of carefully fitted stones lend dramatic mass to the structures and reflect a style inspired by California’s climate and Franciscan missions. A large arbor supported by stone columns joins two heritage oaks in shading the entryway, as soft music drifts about the courtyard and blends with the pleasing sound of water in nearby fountains. Inside, visitors can wander through the gift shop stocked with locally produced items, kitchenware, crystal glasses, and gourmet goodies before heading into the impressive tasting area.
