TRANSPORTATION AND PRACTICAL INFORMATION OF BRUGES
Bruges is enclosed by a circular canal, with its main train station, Stationsplein, just beyond its southern extreme. The compact historic district is entirely accessible on foot. The dizzying Belfort (belfry) towers high over the center of town, presiding over the handsome Markt. The windmill-lined Kruisvestraat and serene Minnewater Park are great for a walk or picnic.
Trains: Leave from Stationsplein (38 23 82; open daily 4:30am-llpm), a 15min. walk south of the city, for: Brussels (50min. 2-6 per hr. 11); Antwerp (l#hr. 2-6 per hr. 12); Ghent (25min. 3-10 per hr. 4.80); Ostend (17min. 3-5 per hr. 3); Zee- brugge (lOmin. every hr. 2.20).
Bike Rental: At the train station (30 23 29). 6.50 per half-day, 9 per day. ‘t Koffie, off the Markt by the belfry. 6 four hours, 9 per day; students 6 per day. Open daily 9am-llpm. Many hostels and hotels also rent bikes for around 9 per day.
Tourist Office: Burg 11 (44 86 86; www.brugge.be). From the train station, head left to tZand, turn right on Zuidzandstr. and walkthrough the Markt to Breidelstr. (20min.). Books rooms (2.50 service fee, 20 deposit) and sells maps (0.20) and info guides (1). Open Apr.-Sept. M-F 9:30am-6:30pm, Sa-Su 10am-12:30pm and 2-6:30pm; Oct.-Mar. M-F 9:30am-5pm, Sa-Su 9:30am-lpm and 2-5:30pm. Branch office at the train station. Open Tu-Sa lOam-lpm and 2-4pm.
