Paraguayan Taxis
Taxis run by the meter with a base fare of Gs. 5,000. They can be hailed off the street, picked up at a taxi stand (throughout the city), or reserved (Tel: 021 311 080, *8294from Personal cell phones). When calling a cab, it is possible to request one con aire (with A/C) for no extra charge – a godsend on hot days. After 10pm, cabs increase their rates by 30 percent – this is also the case on
Sundays. Don’t worry about doing the math as all cabs have a printed list of the modified rates. It is sometimes possible to negotiate a fixed price for a cab ride though your success rate is often directly related to your fluency in Guarani. The cost for a daytime trip from Shopping Villa Morra to the Plaza de los Heroes downtown is approximately Gs. 35,000.
