CHRISTIANITY AND THE NORMANS OF BRITAIN

CHRISTIANITY AND THE NORMANS OF BRITAIN

Christianity caught on in 597 when Augustine converted King thelbert and founded England’s first papal church at Canterbury (195). Christianity continued to flourish in England even after Edward the Confessor, the last Anglo-Saxon king, lost his throne to an up-and-coming Norman named Will. Better known as The Conqueror, William I invaded in 1066, and won the pivotal Battle of Hastings for the crown. William introduced feudalism to Britain, doling out vast tracts of land to the royals and subjugating English tenants to French lords.

The third dropped on the starboard side, a near miss that damaged the bridge. The plane dropped a flare and opened fire with after machine guns. Immediately flames burst from the tail of the plane and she seemed to disappear into the sea, close by. I went round the ship seeing boats away. I was with the captain just before I jumped overboard with the Carley float. The ship had righted herself after heeling over to port, but was beginning to founder. The sea came up on the boat deck and Lt Menhinick threw over the Carley float and Lt Cdr Robbin jumped over together with Lt Menhinick, an AB and myself. We nearly went down with the ship, but fortunately her stern stuck in the mud and we drifted with the tide clear of her. Temporary Lt A. Menhinick RNVR was not part of the ship’s company but was on passage with her to train the crews on the use of the Harvey Projector.
