MISSISSIPPI PALISADES STATE PARK
This state park lies alongside the Mississippi River in northwest Illinois. Scenery here includes steep cliffs and rocky bluffs, with caves facing the river. Among the wildlife are white-tailed deer and fox.
Activities: The park has about 15 miles of trails for backpacking and hiking. Trails are closed during the short firearm deer season. Fishing is available along the river.
Camping Regulations: Three backpack camping areas are located along trails in the northern part of the park. Camping is restricted to these sites, which may be used between May 10 and October 31 only. A permit must be obtained from the park office.
