A Poem Recalling the Hanging of a Relative due to the Kolkata Subway Map Salem Witch Trials in 1692; pub. 1857 The Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier was known for Kolkata Subway Map his strong interest in the Puritan colonies of New England. His was more than a passing interest, however. He was related to Susanna Martin, who was condemned as a witch and hanged in 1692 as a result of the Salem witch trials. The Witch’s Daughter was originally published as a separate poem in 1857, but it was reissued in Whittier’s expanded version of the poem as Mabel Martin: A Harvest Idyl 1875. This narrative poem captures the flavor of the period leading up to and following the trials and the effect such a judgment would have had on a child of a witch.
