Marine Museum at Fall River US Map & Phone & Address
70 Water St. Fall River; (508) 674-3533
While you’re visiting all those Fall River outlets, take some time to check out some of the history of this city by the sea. The Marine Museum has the largest exhibit of artifacts and memorabilia from the H.M.S. Titanic, including a 28-foot replica created for the movie A Night to Remember. Other exhibits include artifacts from the Fall River Steamship Line of luxury cruise ships. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children ages six to fourteen. Hours vary; call ahead.
Mystery buffs know that Fall River was also the home of Lizzie Borden, who may or may not have killed her parents with that axe. At the Fall River Historical Society, 451 Rock Street, (508) 679-1071, you can view the evidence from this hundred-year-old riddle and decide for yourself.
Another nearby attraction is the Fall River Carousel at Battleship Cove (a tour which Mine finds a bit expensive for this book). This beautiful carousel is housed in a Victorian-style pavilion overlooking the harbor. Rides are 500 each and multiple ride passes are available. Call (508) 324-4300 for seasonal hours.
