WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
In many cities, pubs just aren’t what they used to be. Bland renovations and council by-laws have resulted in the character being sucked out of so many neighbourhood watering holes. But thank the beer gods that Hobart still has plenty of genuine old drinking spots. Take the Brisbane, for instance, an old-school institution with sticky carpet and a rock-pub atmosphere that almost makes you wish smoking was still allowed Hosting an awesome variety of events, there’s fun of some kind for everyone here: gigs, karaoke, art shows, bingo, quiz nights, DJs and nerd nights for gamers. The live-gig line-up covers everything from local newbies to international underground acts, with a bunch of Hobart rock legends in between. Music is more on the hard edge, but this joint doesn’t discriminate; even the kiddies get to experience the Brisbane at regular all-ages gigs. One most certainly for the grown-ups is Late Night Krackieoke’, a fortnightly themed karaoke night that definitely requires prior lubrication. If there’s no gig on, you can always stick a coin in the jukebox and play a game of pool or the totally rockin’ Guns N’ Roses pinnie machine. And why not grab a great pub meal while you’re at it? The bar menu covers the classics with a twist, like the signature pizza parmigiana that’ll well and truly rock your tastebuds. Best to wash it down with a good brew, especially from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, when $2 pots are the go (are you serious?!). C’mon folks! Get behind this original rock’n’roll temple and keep the good times rollin’ in Ho-town!
