As you’ve gathered by now, these outlets for major commercial bakeries are terrific places to stock up on essential supplies. As Nissen trucks bring fresh bread to supermarket each morning, they collect whatever was left over from the day before and bring it back to their clearance center. Here, you can get perfectly good loaves, most of which have not yet reached their expiration dates, at half of the supermarket price. Sometimes, if the item is closer to expiration, for even less.
Nissen Thrift carries a few other lines, such as Drake’s Cakes. They also have fresh, current merchandise as well; even this is below retail prices. Open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9-4.
