First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, 50 School St Bridgewater; (508) 697-5425
The Off the Common Coffeehouse is uncommon indeed; it’s one of the few church-based java joints that has played host to such major folk artists as Patty Larkin and Cormac McCarthy, along with many local acts. Off the Common runs from October through May, on the first Saturday of each month. Refreshments are served at all shows, in OTC’s living room-style atmosphere. Ticket prices are generally $4, though some of those bigger acts will command price of about $8 to $10 still, that’s easily half the cost of these same stars at larger clubs.

Stockton built and completed her as Yard No.98 in November 1903; she was launched on 21 October 1903 for L. Larue of Caen in northwest France. The single steel screw was powered by a 900-ihp, three-cylinder triple expansion steam engine that used two Scotch-type boilers working at a pressure of 180 psi. North Eastern Marine Engineering Co. Ltd manufactured the engine and ancillary machinery at Sunderland. From 1908, Fernand Bouet of Caen was the registered owner. Just off the south end of Staple and inshore of the Saint Andre stand the three huge Whin Sill pillars of the Pinnacles which, along with the nearby cliffs, are home to hundreds more guillemots. The name of Gun Rocks came from the pile of cannon guns discovered on the south side of the islets in the 1700s. One of the cannons was used in Bamburgh Castle to alert the villagers when a ship was wrecked.
