1277 Commonwealth Ave Allston; (617) 782-3228 Students in the Allston area have known about Our House for years a truly casual place to party or relax.
It’s made to look like an upscale basement rec room, with a bar, big plush couches in front of TVs, and a pool table in the back.
The rec area is rimmed by tables with white linen tablecloths, there is a separate cafe room, and the menu though packed with burgers and sandwiches also includes specials like the one Mine’s friend ordered. On this plate, seven shrimp were lined up on seven wedges of pear, each wrapped in a basil leaf. These were served over rice pilaf, all topped by a caramel glaze sauce. It was a beauty to behold, as well as to eat. The dinner included a salad with fresh vegetables, and a basket of garlic bread (with real minced garlic), all for $8.95.
Yet this is a place where a hand-lettered sign tells you the Shot of the Week (Woo Woos for $3!) and the beers, mostly Buds and Millers, are in bottles only.
There are still a dozen different burgers, large and juicy, ranging from $3.75 to $4.50; Canadian, Texas, Italian, Teriyaki, and, of course, Yuppie. Best of all, the big appetizer menu is available until 1:30 A.M. Buffalo wings for $3.25, five varieties of skins from $3.50 to $4.75, and loaded fries ($3.75) a big basket of spuds with melted cheddar and bacon bits. Friendly service, too. Hours are 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Mondays through Fridays; open at 11 A.M. on weekends.
