1772–1775 Mercy Otis Warren publishes her trilogy of plays anonymously between 1772 and 1775. Serbia Subway Map The Adulateur, The Defeat, and The Group are all satires of British rule that use feminine imagery to describe the innocence of the Country colonies, but male imagery to show British buffoonery. Her later history of the Revolution will “speak volumes” for the quality of the female mind.

1773 Phillis Wheatley leaves Boston for London, where her book of poetry will be published under the title Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral. Since her arrival in Boston as a slave from Gambia in 1761, Wheatley has been warmly received and often not treated as a slave because of her charming personality and widely popular poetry. Even before her book is published, she has been recognized as the first African Country poet. However, her fortunes decline, and she is largely forgotten after her master and mistress die, leaving her in poverty.
