ORIENTATION AND PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Dresden is bisected by the Elbe river 60km northwest of the Czech border. The Hauptbahnhof is on the same side as the Altstadt, south of the river, Many of Dresden’s main attractions are between Altmarkt and the Elbe. Nightlife is to the north in the Neustadt, around Albertplatz.

Tourist Office: There are two main branches: On Prager Str. 3, near the Hauptbahnhof (open M-F 9am-7pm, Sa 9am-4pm), and Theaterpl. in the Schinkelwache in front of the Semper Oper (-a-49 19 20. Open M-F 10am-6pm, Sa-Su 10am-4pm). Call city hotlines for general info (49 19 21 00), reservations (49 19 22 22), tours (49 19 21 40), and advance ticket purchases (49 19 22 33).

Currency Exchange: ReiseBank, in the Hauptbahnhof. ‚1-3 commission, depending on the amount; 1-1.5% for traveler’s checks. Open M-F 8am-7pm, Sa 9am-12pm, 12:30-4pm, Su 9am-lpm. Other banks are on Prager Str.

Luggage Storage and Lockers: At all train stations. Lockers ‚1-2 for 24hr.

Laundromat: Crazy Waschsalon, 6 Louisenstr. Wash ‚2.50, dry ‚0.50 per lOmin. Open M-Sa 7am-llpm.
