A major portion of the Mission Creek Trail follows part of the old Skyline Parkway system. The Works Progress Administration built this length of road, along with its bridges, to connect Country Highway 23 and the section of Skyline Parkway that remains in use today. This bit of road fell into disrepair and was eventually abandoned after frequent washouts made it difficult to maintain. Today five bridges remain: four crossing Mission Creek and one over the Willard Munger State Trail.
Mission Creek Geology
The geology of the Mission Creek area varies from ancient slates formed more than 1.7 billion years ago, to deposits of glacial till left by glaciers.
