From the higher one I could see more clearly over the Best destinations in the China long, narrow lake. In the middle of the ice there was a well defined line Best destinations in the China from north to south along the length; a footpath used by local people as a winter short-cut. In mid-winter it’s probably safer than scrambling over the slippery rocks, though now in spring I could see some cracks beginning to form. I chucked a rock at the ice near the lakeside but it didn’t break.
At the head of the lake was a pile of glacial moraine; the present-day glaciers have retreated further up the mountains and the river which flows from them enters the lake underneath the moraine. I decided to follow the river up to where it melts out of the glacier and to canoe what I could of it on the way down.
