Activities: Temporary Exhibitions.

The University maintains two galleries, which serve to present and interpret a wide range of visual arts and other humanities disciplines through exhibitions and exhibition-related public programs such as lectures, performances, and films. The primary focus of both galleries is innovative contemporary art. The Schmidt Center Gallery, located in the Dorothy F. Schmidt Center for the Performing Arts, features six to eight presentations each year of contemporary visual art by regionally.

nationally, and .nternationally recognized artists. As a more formal and publicly accessible space than the Ritter .Art Gallery. The Schmidt Center Gallery seeks to present exhibition programs of interest to both university and public audiences in the South Florida region. The gallery will occasionally also present anthropology, history, and other humanities-based exhibitions, supporting the wider mission of the Schmidt College of Arts and Humanities, in collaboration with its faculty and selected outside scholars.

The Ritter Gallery, located on the upper level of the Breezeway east of the Wimberly Library, presents six to eight exhibitions each year, many of which provide FAU art students with their initial experiences in public presentation of their work. The gallery is also available to students and college professors representing other humanities disciplines that can be interpreted through exhibiting historic or contemporary material culture.

Finally, the gallery seeks to present non-traditional or experimental visual art and other presentations that may benefit from the informal nature of this gallery space.

The permanent collection of the International Museum of Cartoon Art consists of over 160,000 original drawings of every genre of cartoon art: animation, comic blogs, comic strips, gag cartoons, illustration, editorial cartoons, greeting cards, caricature, graphic novels, sports cartoons, and computer-generated art.
