There is a great variety of wines, old and new, sweet and dry, white or red, locally produced as well as factory-made. Wine making in Cyprus is one of the oldest industries. Cyprus wines rank among the best in the world, often being awarded with gold and silver medals. “Commandaria”, a dessert type of wine, is unique in the world, bearing this name since the Middle Ages. There are four big wineries in Cyprus: ETKO, KEO, LOEL, SODAP as well as many small wineries recently established at Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery, Arsos, Agios Amvrosios, Anogyra, Pelendri, Koilani, Kathikas, Pafos, etc.

Brandy is locally produced and is either served on its own or as brandy sour when it is mixed with lemon juice, bitters and soda water.
