Gili Meno, Indonesia

HIP, MINIMALIST AND BRIMMING WITH PERSONALITY, MAHAMAYA OFFERS paradise with a strong undercurrent of adventure. Opened by British siblings, it may be a bit of a schlep to get to (a two-hour road transfer from Lombok then a 15-minute boat transfer) but that’s half the fun. Your reward is the gloriously unspoilt island of Gili Meno the smallest and prettiest of the Gili islands -where the only form of transport is a horse and cart. With coral white sands, otherworldly tropical vegetation and the Gili Meno Wall a few feet out to sea, home to turtles and giant gorgonian fans, it’s one of the most unique tropical getaways a 21st century honeymooner could ask for.

INSIDER TIP: During peak periods, the island is prone to power cuts and water shortages, but these are always quickly sorted.
