Merchants Millpond State Park is in northeast North Carolina. Much of the area consists of swamplands, and there’s a 760-acre millpond. Trees include cypress and gum, with some stands of hardwoods and pine. Deer are among the wildlife.
Activities: Hiking and backpacking are possible on nine miles of trails. The millpond is open to canoeing, and canoe rentals are available. Fishing is permitted.
Camping Regulations: The park has one backpack camping area, and there’s also a canoe-camping area on the millpond. Designated sites must be used. A permit is required from the park office, and a camping fee is charged.
