310 Washington St. Boston; (617) 482-6439
One of Boston’s earliest public gathering places (see the listing under Museums) continues to serve this purpose with its Middays at the Meeting House lecture series. These take place on Thursdays at 12:15 RM. through the year, and are just $3 ($2.50 for students and seniors). Each month examines a single theme, with different topics from week to week. Subjects have included Paul Cuffee: A Black Yankee Federalist, New England Women at Sea in the 19th Century, and History of Boston’s Chinatown. Music also makes up part of theMid-days series, as in the recent In Concert: New England Brass. Old South also sponsors several evening lecture series. These are free, and include fun topics like Boston Diners: Food, American Style and Burlesque in Boston. Always call ahead to verify times and locations.
