The Beautiful Hawaiian Island of Kauai

If you are looking for a beautiful, tropical vacation destination which has that untouched, natural feel, yet culturally feels close to home, then Hawaii is an obvious choice. When it comes to picking which of its stunning islands to go to though, each has its own personality and style. Here, we take a look at Kauai, an idyllic island with plenty of things to do, amazing wildlife, and some of the most luxurious accommodation Hawaii has to offer:

Kauai Destination Facts

Kauai is a small island with a population of around 62,000 people. Many of the people who live here are employed in tourism, as it is a hugely popular destination for people from the North American mainland and further afield. The main languages spoken in Kauai are English and the local Hawaiian language, so you should have no problems communicating, though it is a good idea to learn how to pronounce native words and place names properly to avoid confusion. Because Hawaii itself is something of a melting pot of people from all over the Pacific and the Americas, it is not uncommon to also hear other languages like Japanese, Chinese, Tagalog and Portuguese spoken, but for the most part everybody you will encounter will speak good English. The currency is the US dollar, and credit cards are accepted in most shops, restaurants and hotels, so spending money is no problem either!

The capital of the island is the small city of Lihue, and in the Southeast of the city you will find Kauai’s main airport, from which you can fly to other Hawaiian islands or to some US destinations. The climate is temperate year round, so it is a great destination for some sun when the weather turns colder elsewhere in the USA. There is more rain in the winter months, but it remains warm and there is still plenty of sunshine.

Exploring in Kauai

Most of the things you will want to do in Kauai revolve around the great outdoors. If you love the beach, you will be in your element if you choose a resort like Koloa Landing at Poipu Beach this is regularly voted the best beach in the USA. You can relax and admire the scenery while working on your tan, or engage in all kinds of water sports. The ocean is safe to swim in here and has a fairly warm temperature year round, though as with any ocean swimming you should pay attention to lifeguards’ warnings, and always swim with someone else.

Hiking is also a popular thing to do when you visit Kauai, and there are not too many dangerous creatures to worry about Kauai doesn’t have snakes, so as long as you use a good mosquito repellent you can explore at your leisure. There is the occasional wild boar but these are afraid of people and won’t come near you. If you want to see some impressive wildlife, humpback whales visit the area between December and April, so take a whale watching trip and you may be lucky enough to see these gentle giants!

Kauai is a fantastic vacation destination whether you are looking for relaxation and luxury or an unforgettable adventure. Make sure to stay at our beautiful beach resort, for the most idyllic vacation.
