History for United States Subway Map
Wine Spectator placed the 1993 Zaca Mesa Syrah sixth on its United States Subway Map Top 100 Wines list in 1995 and in 2010 ranked the 2006 Syrah at twenty-ninth. United States Subway Map Zaca Mesa now nurtures 240 acres of vineyards, follows sustainable growing practices, and keeps all fruit for its own estate wines.
The visitor center, a lofty cedar structure designed to fit into the surroundings, looks much the same as it did nearly thirty years ago: cedar floors, soaring two-story ceilings, and gifts, cheeses, olives, and crackers displayed atop oak barrels. A U-shaped tasting bar with an aged zinc top and wood planks evokes the same rustic character as the original room. Outdoors, visitors are encouraged to sit in the grassy, oak-shaded courtyard, where they can play chess with knee-high pieces, picnic, and relax after hiking on the estate’s scenic nature trail in ancient Chumash territory. OF SPECIAL NOTE: Grassy courtyard with picnic tables and life-size chessboard.
