Metro: Xiang Mi Hu NAN YUAN SHENZHEN
This most unusual eat street is situated in Futian just south and southwest of the Party Committee building the old City Government and Terminal One. It specializes in the food of the Uighur in the far western province of Xinjiang.
There are large numbers of Uighur in Shenzhen. The Uighur are the Turks of Western China. They are Moslems who speak a language understood in Istanbul. Many of them have European features and can easily be mistaken for Italians or Greeks.
As you would expect from Turks, kebabs are big in Nan Yuan as are strange but tasty confections made of raisins and nuts. No pork, of course, but plenty of mutton: braised mutton, roast mutton, every part of the sheep is available. Try the Xinyue Restaurant 0755 8365 4709.
As well as Uighur food, Nan Yuan has some of Shenzhen’s better Korean barbecues. We highly recommend the Shidouli Restaurant.
There’s also Nanyuan Lu, famous for its Xinjiang and Muslim fare. Try the Xinyue Muslim Restaurant.
Address: Nan Yuan Rd, Nan Yuan Village Futian behind Terminal One.
